A Hikvision marketing employee was caught by IPCamTalk trying to surreptitiously disparage IPVM and IPCamTalk.
This is an outgrowth of Hikvision’s anti-IPVM marketing campaign and their most recent failed attempt to denigrate IPVM. Hikvision received numerous negative responses to their campaign including from an admin at IPCamTalk, where a member, montecrypto, discovered the Hikvision backdoor.
The IPCamTalk admin declared:
4.6 billion in alleged “revenue” and they hire someone with a 6th grade education to trash IPVM.com
The Hikvision marketer was upset with this description so he created an account, not disclosing his affiliation, to respond:
To which the IPCamTalk admin replied:
Actually the articles on IPVM are very well written and make complete sense. Hikvision is simply pissed off that someone is taking them to task so they hire some incompetent fool to write a hit piece
Evidently that hit too close to home for the Hikvision marketer who responded:
“Very well written”? Please! They cater to a non-college educated audience… There isn’t a single positive post on their blog about Hikvision…. Even someone with only a 6th grade education, such as yourself, could see this.
Update: Cover Up
The Hikvision marketing employee then conducted a coverup. Originally, he disparaged IPCamTalk’s admin as having ‘only a 6th grade education’, after publication of our post he edited it to remove that. Of course, that only makes it worse and we have screen shots before and after.
The original:
The cover-up:
Hikvision Marketing Employee Revealed
And then IPCamTalk’s admin revealed who ‘techsaurus’ was:
IPCamTalk also directly confirmed to IPVM that it was a Hikvision marketing employee.
The whole debate about education levels is unhelpful as smart, mature people (and the opposite) can be found at various levels of education or lack thereof.
Hikvision’s Marketing Challenges
The growing awareness of Hikvision’s Chinese government ownership and their struggles dealing with their ongoing cybersecurity problems, including most recently the backdoor confirmation is certainly putting great strain on Hikvision as a company.
For a marketing department, this is extremely hard. Hikvision’s deep government pockets understandably makes them confident all problems can be solved with money. But some cannot.
Hikvision is welcome to continue with these on-line skirmishes and disparagements but they would do better simply fixing the problems they have, if they can.
UPDATE: Fired
The employee was fired and his actions were 100% unauthorized, according to a source close to the company.
